A "New" Table

A few months back, my boyfriend had the wonderful idea to decorate my plain, IKEA, coffee table using slate tiles. He said he had done this to a previous table, so I had no fear as he began the transformation.

Items Needed:
Tile Adhesive
Tiles
Grout
Sponge (specifically for laying tile...it comes in a kit)
Sealer (something that works with the type of tile you choose)
Rags
Bucket of Water
Paint Brush
Grout Float (to smooth out the grout)

First, you spread the adhesive on the table, trying to make it evenly smooth. Next, you lay the tiles and allow them to dry onto the adhesive for at least 24 hours. Then, you completely cover the table with the grout, making sure you fill all of the seams. Once the grout dries, you will need the grout sponge and water to wipe off each tile. After about 24 hours, you can brush on the sealer. He used about 3 coats and followed the directions about waiting between coats.

Our result is a rustic looking table that eliminates the need for coasters...even though I still keep them handy, just in case. It's a great way to personalize your space!

Do you have any more ideas on decorations? Let me know!
